Life is learning...
From attending the 2009 Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., to watching the final launch of Space Shuttle Endeavor in Titusville, Florida, (and subsequently meeting the crew) in 2011 to attending a national college football championship game in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2016 to listening to the Boston Pops at the Independence Day celebration and experiencing a total solar eclipse in Salem, Oregon, in 2017 to serving in Alaska and New Orleans and London in 2018 to hiking in Arches National Park in 2020, Yenovkian Academy students continuously have engaged their five senses in immersive learning.
Yenovkian Academy does not seek to replicate the school environment. We believe that learning is continuous and best accomplished when the student engages all five senses. To that end, we explore. All course concepts studied in structured courses become part of the fabric of our life and part of our daily conversations. As we travel, we frequently refer to and have deeper more thorough conversations regarding these concepts. These conversations, usually in the context of a museum, historical site, a national park or monument excursion, or driving down one of America’s vast highways, enhance the student’s understanding and retention of course concepts, which inevitably leads to mastery of the subject.
While we continue our coursework as we travel, travel, in and of itself, is an academic pursuit worthy of evaluation and credit. It requires planning, observation, hypotheses, analysis, effective communication, and fortitude. Yenovkian Academy students will have visited all 50 states and western Canada and have gained vast quantities of knowledge and experience. In 2021-22, Academy seniors are engaged in a Live U.S. History tour, seeking to explore historical sites that have been unexplored in traditional textbooks.
The Yenovkian Academy education prepares the student to excel in college and beyond. Yenovkian Academy grade books, full course descriptions/syllabi, grading policy, and secondary instructor credentials are available upon request. All courses offered by Yenovkian Academy meet or exceed State of South Carolina Standards for Learning.
